Maria Sharapova managed to escape with victory on what could be one of the most shocking matches in Australian Open history. She was playing against Alexandra Panova, who is current ranked at number 150 on the ATP list and what a match was that!!! Sharapova made an early lead by taking the first set (6-1), but she begin to lose her touch at the second set – which she lost (4-6). But the real thriller was on the last set, on which Maria showed many emotions, on some occasions, she even showed anger at herself for playing badly. On the other end, Panova was making a spectacular progress and showed how good she can be by playing aggressive and smart, probably her best match in her career so far. Panova took a commanding 4-1 lead and it seemed that Sharapova was done. But, by getting her confident back, and improving her game, Sharapova got back into the match by winning 3 games in a row. However the match was not over yet. Panova managed to have 5-4 lead and had 2 match points but, unfortunately for her, she didn’t use them. At the very end Maria showed the world why she is ranked number 2 in the ATP list, and by class performance and unbelievable comeback, she managed to win the match with 7-5 score.
