Henry just officially retired from football, and what a career the 37-year old Frenchman had. But, that’s not end of the news, he also announced joining the Sky Sports network in the beginning of 2015.
Henry was born in Les Ulis, Essonne ( a suburb of Paris ) where we played in a local club as youngster where he begin to show the country and world what kind of a player he could be. In 1990 he was spotted by AS Monaco and he was signed instantly, but his professional debut was in 1994. In 1998 Henry was called up to play for the international team to play the World Cup , meantime he was signed by Serie A defending champion team – Juventus . Unfortunately the Italian team played him on the wing, which was not his position, he was a striker, and that brought up the bad times of his career. The best time of his career was still yet to come. After the disappointing season in Italy, in 1999 Arsenal signed him for 11 milion pounds, where in short time he became a World Class Player. His coming to the Premier League was incredible, he made Arsenal champions, again, winning 2 Premier League titles and 3 FA Cup titles. Henry is the leading goal scorer in Arsenal history with 228 goals, he is one of the 5 players that scored 30 or more goals in one season in the Premier League history. Henry was also in the squad alongside Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Sol Cambell, Patrick Vieira and so on, that won the title in the Premier League without defeat in 2004, they were called the ‘’ Invincibles or ‘’49 Unbeaten ‘’ ( 49 stands for the number of games in a row, without defeat ) .
However the Champions League title was missing to his career, he had a chance with Arsenal, but they were defeated by Barcelona in 2006. In June 2007 he transferred to Barcelona for a fee of 24 million euros. In 2009 he was part of the historical Barcelona squad when they’ve won the La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, all in that same year. In 2010 he went to the New York Red Bulls and played there for four years. In 2012 he went back to Arsenal on a 2 month loan, and in his first appearance for his old club, he scored the winning goal against Leeds ( he went to play of the bench ), which brought tears of joy and happiness to his eyes and the eyes of all of the Arsenal fans. His abilities, skills, quickness, style, have showed the world Henry’s greatness and genius about the game of football. Every time he had the ball in his legs, the fans were standing up from their seats, because something magical was about to happen. These are some of the reasons that the Arsenal organization honored him with a statue outside of the Emirates Stadium.
There are not many players that can be mentioned in his class, everyone who ever saw him play would tell you that he is one of the best players in his era. It’s sad that now he is now retired, but we can’t wait to see him analyzing and commentating the game that we all love, the game that he can be mentioned as one of the greatest who ever played, the game of football…
